UTE GNA II is the largest natural gas power plant in Brazil. In commercial operation
since May 2025, UTE GNA II has an installed capacity of 1.7 GW — enough energy to
supply around 8 million households.
Located at the Port of Açu, Rio de Janeiro, it is part of the largest natural
gas-fired thermal power complex in Latin America, with 3 GW of installed capacity.
The complex consists of two power plants — UTE GNA I and UTE GNA II — connected by a
privately operated LNG Terminal.
Advanced Technology and Energy Efficiency
Like UTE GNA I, UTE GNA II operates in a combined cycle configuration, with 3 gas
turbines and 1 steam turbine. These are among the most advanced turbines available
on the market today, enabling over 60% energy efficiency and achieving the lowest
emission levels among operational plants in the country.
