UTE GNA I

In operation since 2021, UTE GNA I is the largest natural gas power plant in Southeastern Brazil. Located at the Port of Açu, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it has an installed capacity of 1.3 GW — equivalent to the consumption of 6 million households.

UTE GNA I is part of the largest natural gas-fired thermal power complex in Latin America, with 3 GW of installed capacity. The complex includes two power plants — UTE GNA I and UTE GNA II — connected by a privately operated LNG Terminal.

Advanced Technology and Energy Efficiency

UTE GNA I is a combined-cycle power plant consisting of 3 gas turbines and 1 steam turbine. Thanks to cutting-edge technology investments, approximately 30% of the energy is generated without additional gas consumption, through the steam turbine — contributing significantly to higher energy efficiency.

The energy generated by UTE GNA I is connected to the SIN – National Interconnected System – through a 345 kV transmission line approximately 52 km long, reaching the Campos I substation.

Energy Security

Upon entering operation in September 2021, the plant played a strategic role in addressing the worst drought Brazil had faced in the past 90 years, delivering reliable and secure energy to the National Interconnected System (SIN).
